We at Parenting Pod believe that positive communication skills are critical to all functional relationships–not only those between parents and their children.
We are therefore proud to announce the annual Parenting Pod scholarship.
This $1,000 scholarship is available to full-time students of behavioral or social sciences, either at the college or graduate level.
The goal of this scholarship is to promote discourse about the fundamental importance of positive communication skills to all aspects of our lives—from work to health to community to family. We hope that ultimately, by raising awareness of the value of positive communication, we will foster understanding and tolerance and, in doing so, we will cultivate a more peaceful and productive society for both ourselves and our children.
Eligibility Criteria:
The applicant must be a current, full-time, undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in behavioral or social sciences in any accredited college or university in the United States, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Application Deadline:
All materials must be submitted by email before July 31, 2019, at 11:59 PM EDT.
How to Participate:
The applicant must submit an original essay of 600-1,000 words about any theory related to communication which is backed by scientific research. The essay must cite at least two (2) published studies from reputable sources from any field of social or behavioral science, especially–though not limited to—psychology, psychobiology, and/or sociology.
The essay must be written in English and in layman’s terms.

The essay must be in Microsoft Word or Open Office Format.

If sent by email, the subject line of the email should read “Scholarship application of [applicant’s name]” and the body of the email should contain the following information:

- In case of age below 18, scanned copy of consent of parents/legal guardians

Any essays submitted after July 31 will be considered for the upcoming 2019 Annual Scholarship.
Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
Selection, Notification, and Award:
Each submission will be reviewed by the The Parenting Pod staff and their advisers. The $1000 scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who has, in their estimation, submitted the most compelling essay.
The winning applicant will be notified by email by August 31, 2019.
An emailed reply to such notification from the applicant will be considered confirmation of acceptance of the scholarship. If there is no reply to the notification email within seven days, the scholarship will be awarded to a different applicant.
The transfer of the scholarship funds will be made via PayPal within 30 days of the acceptance of the scholarship.
The winning essay will be published on ParentingPod.com, along with the author’s name, photograph, and a brief bio.

By participating, the applicant agrees that ParentingPod.com has exclusive rights to publish the winning essay.
Parenting Pod will not post or distribute any essay, other than the winning submission.
Plagiarized, incomplete, late and/or non-English submissions will not be accepted.
An applicant may not submit more than one essay.
All submissions are final upon initial submission.
Any taxes incurred are the responsibility of the recipient of the scholarship.
