How to Choose a Robot Vacuum
When choosing a robot vacuum, here are some features to consider.
Battery Life
All robot vacs use a rechargeable battery. When the battery is low, it will return to its station. Some vacuums will resume the job, but cheaper models may start from scratch. Knowing how long the battery will last is therefore important. Does it last for 100 minutes? 120? In addition, how long does it take to charge?
Suction Power
Different robot vacuum models can provide different levels of suction power. Many of the newer models tend to be quite powerful, matching up with some traditional vacuum models. Some will have smart power, making adjustments depending on how dirty your floor is.
In addition, look for a vacuum that works well for what type of floors you have. Some work better for hard floors, others work well for carpeted floors, and others work well for both floors.
Mapping
Older and less expensive models will go in a straight direction and then turn when they hit objects. This is an outdated method. One of the newest additions is the ability for these vacuums to map out your home and vacuum that way.
Wi-Fi Features
Even the cheaper models tend to have some form of Wi-Fi. Usually, it’s an app that allows you to control the robot vac, be it through the app or voice control. You can read stats, and they will tell you if there’s an issue.
Dustbin
Most robot vacs have a built-in dustbin that you have to empty. Since these vacuums are small, you will probably have to empty them quite a bit. There are some with a self-cleaning system. This is when the vac empties itself into a bigger dustbin, decreasing how often you have to empty the vacuum.
Brushroll
You want something with a brushroll that will fit your needs. For example, pet hair vacuums will have bigger brushrolls that keep the per hair from being tangled.
Cost
Robot vacs come in many different prices. Some go for only a couple hundred, while others cost up to a grand. How much are you willing to spend on a Roomba, Shark Ion, or other brand? If your budget can’t fit all the features you want, what sacrifices can you make?
Luckily, Black Friday deals can allow you to save money. With these deals, you can potentially buy something more expensive for less money.
Warranty
Whether it’s a Roomba, Shark Ion, or one of the many other products, you want a company that will stand behind their products in the event of something going wrong. Most brands have a warranty and customer service should something go wrong, and many stores may have a return policy. However, a good company will go above and beyond to help you should there be something wrong with your model.
Why Are Robot Vacuums So Popular?
The robot vacuum cleaner is popular for several reasons. The most obvious ones are . . .
It Automates the Process
Vacuuming can be quite a hassle, especially if you live in a larger home or have to vacuum more than once a week. A robot vacuum can provide light-duty maintenance without your having to raise a finger. Today’s robot vacuums will return to their charging stations when finished.
Technology Is Improving
It’s been 18 years since the iRobot Roomba was first introduced. In the early 2000s, these robots were a bit rough and limited. Nowadays, a robotic vacuum can map out your home and some of them are powerful enough to compete with a traditional vacuum cleaner. Plus, even the cheapest robotic vacuum has Wi-Fi and other features that make the process easier.
They Cost Less
Nowadays, the robotic vacuum isn’t a luxury item. You can find plenty of robot vacuums for a price that isn’t too ridiculous. Even the cheaper ones have tech such as Wi-Fi, too.
There are Roombas from iRobot on sale this year such as the the Roomba s9, the Roomba 980, the Roomba i3, the Roomba i7, the Roomba e5, the Roomba s9+, the Roomba 960, and the Braava Jet. You might also want to look at our Black Friday neato deals.
If you want a budget Roomba, but that’s too expensive even for you, then that’s okay. Look for the Roomba Black Friday deals.
My 3 Favorite Robot Vacuums
iRobot Roomba I7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is a more expensive model of the iRobot Roomba, but it’s not too pricey. It has everything you would need for a truly automated robotic vacuum. It’s self-cleaning, emptying itself into its dustbin. This robotic vacuum also uses smart mapping technology so it can learn the layout of your home without having to guess.
In addition, this iRobot Roomba has powerful suction and brushes. It’s great for houses with pets, or any home, really. Overall, that’s why the iRobot Roomba i7+ is our top pick.
eufy by Anker, BoostIQ RoboVac 30C MAX
This robot vacuum is meant for people with lower to medium budgets. While it doesn’t have smart mapping technology, it has several features that make it a great robot vacuum to purchase. For one thing, this robot vacuum will increase suction power depending on how dirty your floor is. For another, it comes with strips that will prevent it from entering areas in your room it isn’t supposed to. The eufy Robovac lineup is quite decent, so check it out.
Ecovacs DEEBOT 500
This is a great robot vacuum if you have a shoestring budget. While the Ecovacs DEEBOT 500 doesn’t have anything fancy, it does come with basic Wi-Fi features and pretty much everything you would expect from a cheaper robot vacuum. This is also a good robot vacuum to get if you’re looking for a starter.
These are our top three, but you do need to remember that iRobot and other brands have many different types of vacs. These three may not meet your needs, and we recommend to go shopping at your favorite site or store to see what they have. You may end up finding something you like better, or something that fits your budget better than these three can.
What robot vacuum deals did we see on Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2019?
If you are looking for a robot vacuum, waiting until Black Friday may be a smart move. You can find plenty of robot vacuum deals around this time. As of right now, we don’t know yet what robot vacuum sales are happening this year, but by looking at the robot vacuum deals of last year, we can figure it out.
Last year, we saw robot vacuum deals that knocked a good $100-$300 off the price. For instance, the i7+ was $200 off. This is quite a good chunk of change off the price. If you can afford to wait for this year’s robot vacuum sales, you’re in for a treat.
As always, check different outlets when looking for robo vacuums. Look at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and any other retailer or site. Sometimes, you may find deals on a particular model. For instance, maybe Best Buy offers deals on a Roomba 692 model, while another site may offer deals on a Roomba i7+. With a site, they may have an event that lasts longer, too.
Final Words
This year, we expect to see robot vacuum cleaners on sale this Black Friday. Finding deals on robovacs can allow you to get something more powerful for less, which is great if your budget is a little low. While traditional vacuums are ideal for heavy duty cleaning, robot vacuums are excellent if you want to perform light to medium vacuuming in your home. Good luck finding the best for your situation.
