My 5-year-old has not one, but two electric vehicles. Not because we were bored and decided to spend our hard-earned money on Power Wheels, but because she had so much fun with her electric Jeep that we bought her a truck as well. She loves both of them for their individual qualities. For example, the Jeep has two seats, making it fun for her baby dolls to ride next to her. In the truck, she loads her toys, rocks, sticks, or whatever her little heart desires into the bed.
Based on our experience and feedback from other customers, I can confidently recommend the Power Wheels Dune Racer as the best value for your money. It’s a 2-seater so kids don’t have to take turns. Its Monster Traction system can power over multiple terrains. It is durable and sturdy enough to last for several years. Plus it has one of the strongest gearboxes available.
On the other hand, if you don’t care about power and torque, and you just want lots of features to keep your child busy and happy, check out the Best Choice Products 12V 3.7 MPH Land Rover. From working headlights to an actual horn to an input for your child’s music device, this electric car has so many features that your child will enjoy sitting in the car and playing with them as much as the actual drive.
For my own daughter I got the Moderno Truck Ride On Toy Car With Parental Remote and MP3 Player. It also has lots of features, although not as many as the Best Choice Land Rover. But I still chose it because it has such a huge selection of colors. We chose the purple, since it’s my daughter’s favorite color.

What Should I Look for When Buying an Electric Car for Kids?
Ride-on electric cars for kids have come a long way since we were kids. Most of these cars now come with a plethora of features, including a working FM radio and an MP3 player, so your children can listen to their favorite tunes, as well as LED lights, real-life sounds effects, and working gear shifters. Some even have leather seats and two-point seat belts for the ultimate driving experience. You can also find some that come with remote control, so we as parents can be sure our little drivers are staying safe and out of the roadways.
However, there are several factors you’ll want to consider when purchasing electric kids’ cars.
Criteria #1: Consider the recommended age and weight capacity of the vehicle
While electric toy cars are typically recommended for ages two to eight, some are designed specifically for children as young as 12 months. So it’s important to pay attention to the vehicle’s weight capacity. For most single-seat models, the weight limit is approximately 40 pounds while two-seaters can handle up to 130 pounds.
Criteria #2: Contemplate the safety features of the electric car
The best electric cars for kids these days come with countless safety features. Many include two-point seat belts, power lock capabilities, a brake system that allows the vehicle to stop as soon as your child lets off the gas pedal, and separate parent remote controls so that you’re in control. You can rest easy knowing that your children are safe when driving around in their electric cars, but be sure to supervise at all times. These cars can be pretty heavy and will hurt if you get hit by one.
Criteria #3: Compare the batteries of your electric car choices
The speed at which these electric cars travel depends on what battery type you choose for your kids’ car. Almost all of these cars for kids come with a 12-volt battery, but you can upgrade to a 16-volt or 18-volt battery. Some even have a 24-volt option. The 12-volt electric vehicles can go up to four miles per hour while the 24-volt electric cars can reach a speed of up to six miles per hour. Keep in mind, however, that upgrading your battery may void the warranty.
Also, note that these batteries take about 18 hours to charge straight out of the box. After that, it can take about 14 hours to recharge. You’ll want to plan for this before your kids get all excited to jump on and ride around in their new vehicle.
Criteria #4: How many seats do they have?
You’ll want an answer to this question if you have two or more children. To avoid arguments and disputes (and to save you unnecessary headaches), look for a two-seater. If you only have one kid, the ATVs and quads are a good choice.
Criteria #5: How much do they cost, and can you buy them used?
The cost is something to consider whether you’re on a budget or wanting to splurge. These electric cars can cost anywhere from $200 to $450. The best Power Wheels with all the bells and whistles will cost even more. The good news is you can purchase them used from garage sales, online yard sales, or from someplace like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or even Craigslist. The rule of thumb here is to get the car’s background and to take it for a test ride before purchasing.
Here’s How We’ve Determined the Best Electric Car for Kids
To determine the best electric toy cars for this list, I not only looked at consumer reviews, I considered the options and features for the price and recommended age and weight for each vehicle.
#1: Power Wheels Dune Racer (Best Value)
Recommended age: 36 months to seven years old
Max weight limit: 130 lbs.
One of the best Power Wheels for kids, this Dune Racer is the best choice for outdoor fun. The Power Wheels Dune Racer has a drive system that allows it to go on hard surfaces, rough terrain, wet grass, and mud. It can also travel at a speed of up to five miles per hour, which is pretty typical of these types of vehicles. This vehicle offers an open cockpit with metal handlebars and the Power Wheels power lock brake system. This system ensures the vehicle stops as soon as the child lets off the gas, making it one of the better safety features.
It Has a 7R Gearbox
The 7R gearbox is one of the strongest gearboxes available. This rare and hard-to-find box gearbox with a 15-tooth motor brings with it more power and torque than the other vehicles on this list. It’s also mounted in such a way that minimizes the stress on the electric car when starting and stopping.
After reading the reviews, you’ll find this Power Wheels vehicle is durable and sturdy enough to last for several years, even with the toughest and roughest of children. This is good news for those with kids who are just learning to drive an electric car. It’s also a two-seater, so your kids don’t have to share their turns. Yay!
Parents love that this kid’s electric car sits low to the ground. This ensures that, as long as they stay seated, the car won’t flip over. Huge points for safety.
#2. Kid Trax Yamaha ATV Toddler/Kids Electric Ride On Toy (Best Premium)
Recommended age: 3 to 7 years old
Max weight limit: 88 lbs.
Maybe you have an unlimited budget and are wanting to find the best electric cars for kids available on the market today. If this is you, I’d recommend checking out the Kid Trax Yamaha ATV Toddler/Kids Electric Ride On Toy. This is the only electric ride-on toy resembling a real ATV that made this list. With working headlights, realistic engine and horn sounds, front and rear cargo racks, an FM radio, an MP3 input, working suspension, and Power Trax rubber traction strip tires, your kids will be ready for their next outdoor adventure.
Looks Just Like a Real 4-Wheeler
If your little one loves all things ATV but just isn’t quite ready for the real thing yet, this is an excellent alternative. Not only does it look just like a real 4-wheeler, but it even has some of the same functions. Your kids will quickly be the envy of the neighborhood as they dominate the backyard, driveway, and sidewalks with their “4-wheeler.”
Foot Pedal Acceleration
One of the best features of this electric ride-on is its foot pedal acceleration. Your kids will get the lifelike driving experience of a real ATV.
Front and Rear Cargo Racks
The front and rear cargo racks let your child haul their favorite toys with them wherever they go. They might have so much fun using these racks that they offer to help with yard work. A mom can dream, right?
FM Radio with MP3 Input
This rechargeable 12-volt electric ATV toy has an FM radio with MP3 input, so your little one can cruise the backyard listening to their favorite hits.
Extra Smooth Ride
The combination of the working suspension and Power Trax rubber traction strips on the tires help to provide an extra smooth and steady ride every time.
Those who’ve purchased the Kid Trax Yamaha ATV Toddler/Kids Electric Ride On Toy agree that this is a must-have for anyone looking for an electric car for kids. The realistic look and feel of a real 4-wheeler make it a hit with kids, and parents love that it’s sturdy and long-lasting.
#3: Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer (Best Quality)
Recommended age: 2 to 7 years old
Max weight limit: 85 lbs.
One of the best electric cars for kids is the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer. Peg Perego is known for being a high-quality, high-end brand for baby and toddler products and toys. John Deere, of course, is known for their signature green and yellow tractors. When you combine these companies, you get a dependable kids’ ride-on tractor. The neat thing about this tractor is that it comes with an attachable extra-large trailer. This is the only electric car for kids on this list with this cool feature. Your kids are going to love it.
Two Speeds, Plus Reverse
The Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer has two speeds: 2 1/4 miles per hour or 4 1/2 miles per hour. It also has reverse. Not only that, but parents have the ability to control the speed themselves with the second gear lockout feature.
The seat on this kids’ electric tractor is adjustable, which means it will grow with your child. It also features flip-up armrests so your little one can rest easy and take a break after a hard day out on the farm.
High Traction Wheels
This farm tractor has high traction wheels. It will easily travel across grass, gravel, dirt, and pavement. These tires are perfect for getting your little farmer to their destination with no problem.
Watch your kids get excited as they load up and deliver goods with their very own extra-large stake-side trailer.
Even farmers like to listen to the radio while they’re working in the fields. This ride-on car comes with an FM radio, so your kids can jam to their favorite tunes while they’re tilling up the land or hauling their payload off to the other end of the yard.
Made in the USA
Using a combination of domestic and global components, this ride-on car is American-made. If you’re curious as to where in the USA this toy is made, it’s Fort Wayne, Indiana. Being a Hoosier, this makes me proud.
Parents are raving about the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer. They say their children love hauling everything from toys to garden produce around in the back of their trailer. Others have upgraded the included 12-volt battery for longer ride times. According to these customers, you can’t go wrong with this one.
#4: Moderno Truck Ride On Toy Car With Parental Remote and MP3 Player (Best for Color Options)
Recommended age: three to six years old
Max weight limit: 100 lbs.
Power Wheels are not just for boys. Like my daughter, girls can have the time of their little lives in these cars. With a speed of up to five miles per hour, this purple Ride On Toy Car is perfect for girls between the ages of three to six years old, or up to a maximum weight of 100 pounds. The kids’ electric car has leather seats, realistic working LED headlights, LED light bars, taillights, and dashboard lights and gauges. It also comes with an underbody soft glow blue LED light kit preinstalled.
So Many Color Options
One of the features I love about the Moderno Ride On Toy Car is that you can choose your color. Yes, I chose to highlight the purple color option here because my daughter has that one, and I was being a bit biased. However, whether you’re buying for a girl or a boy, there are a plethora of colors to choose from. From black to red or blue, pink, yellow, white, or green, your kid can style and profile this awesome Jeep around the neighborhood while sporting their favorite color.
Unbeatable Sound System
Not only does it come with an MP3 player with Bluetooth capabilities, but it also has a radio with an AUX MP3 audio input and plays files from a Micro SD card or USB Flash Drive with your kid’s favorite music on it. The stereo system can also support external devices like iPod, iPad, iPhone, or Android phones.
Smart Battery Charging Technology
The Moderno Truck Ride On Toy Car comes with Smart Battery charging technology. This means that the technology will automatically control the battery charge to prevent overcharging. Because it’s automatically controlled, charging can take anywhere from one hour to 10 hours, giving your children a ride time of approximately 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the conditions.
This is the best electric vehicle for those girls and boys who are looking for a fun driving experience. It comes with soft EVA foam rubber tires and front and rear spring shock absorbers for a comfortable ride. Plus, your kid will be riding in comfort with the adjustable, soft, perforated PU leather seat. The long-range parental remote control is included for added safety benefits and peace of mind.
#5. Best Choice Products 12V 3.7 MPH 2-Seater Licensed Land Rover Ride On Car Toy (Most Features)
Recommended age: 3 to 8 years old
Max weight limit: 128 lbs.
The best selling point about this ride-on car has got to be the number of features this thing comes with. From LED headlights to realistic startup sounds and a working horn, your kid will probably spend as much time just sitting in the car playing with these things as they will actually driving it around the yard.
Extra Fun Features
Your kids are going to love the realistic sounds this car makes when they start it up. Not only that, but they can listen to their favorite music using the AUX input, turn on the working LED headlights, and sound the horn as they cruise the neighborhood.
Can Handle Two People
As I’ve just mentioned, the Best Choice Products 12V 3.7 MPH 2-Seater Licensed Land Rover Ride On Car Toy is perfect if you have more than one child, cousins stop by for a visit, or the neighbor kid frequents your yard and toys. Your kids will have a blast driving their little friends up and down and all around the yard.
Drive Manually or With Remote Control
Like the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer, Moderno Truck Ride On Toy Car With Parental Remote and MP3 Player, and 12V Licensed BMW I8 Kids Ride On Car, you can either control the car yourself with the parental remote control or if you think your kid’s ready, let them drive it manually. Either way, it feels good having that remote control in your hand and knowing you can quickly help them in the event they head for danger.
Your little driver can choose either a safe, low speed of 1.8 miles per hour or a maximum speed of 3.7 miles per hour for those little daredevils that insist on pushing limits. Regardless of which speed your little one chooses, the 4-wheel suspension and treaded tires will provide an easy and smooth ride every time.
Reviewers agree that their kids love this electric car and that they would buy it again. The only drawback seems to be various problems with the tires and getting the company to replace them.
#6. Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler (Best Themed)
Recommended age: three to seven years old
Max weight limit: 130 lbs.
Another Fisher-Price toy car, this one has most of the same features as the other electric cars on this list. However, what this car has that the others don’t is the ability to choose from a variety of themes, such as Disney Princesses or Toy Story 4. Reaching a top speed of five miles per hour, it has two forward speeds and one slow speed in reverse. The car also has power lock brakes for added safety, and the high-speed lockout option lets you increase the speed when your child is ready.
Comes in Themes
Unlike the other electric cars we’ve looked at, this Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler has themed options. Girls might like the Disney Princess or the Sunny Day-themed vehicle, while Hot Wheels is a popular theme for the boys. There are even Jurassic Park and Toy Story 4 options.
Ready for an Adventure
The Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler is one of the best electric cars for adventure driving. Recommended for three- to seven-year-olds, your children will have a blast taking this car for a ride. This electric car looks just like the real Jeep Wrangler, complete with the distinctive Jeep grille, roll bars, and rugged front and back fenders.
Reviewers tell about how great this product is and say that their children love it. The quality of materials and durability make it a perfect vehicle to grow with kids.
#7: Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle (Best For All-Terrain)
Recommended age: 8 years and up
Max weight limit: 120 lbs.
The Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle is the best choice in battery-powered ride-on toys for those looking for that quad, or four-wheeler, effect. This Power Wheel looks just like a quad, except it’s for little people. Give them an adventure they’ll never forget.
Can Conquer Tough Trails and Big Bumps
No need to compromise with this off-road vehicle. The Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle is built to go off-road. No more driving on the sidewalk or trying to stay on smooth, level ground. Watch as your kids take on those tough trails and big bumps. The 13-inch knobby tires aren’t likely to spin like the plastic tires of other kids’ electric cars.
If it’s going to look like a quad, it may as well drive like one, right? This off-road vehicle features a twist-grip throttle control for variable speed and acceleration control with a hand-operated rear disc brake. You won’t be able to get your kid off their Razor.
Much like the Power Wheels Dune Racer in #1 above, this vehicle also has metal handlebars and the Power Wheels power lock brake system. The metal frame and solid motor unit make this a favorite of parents everywhere. It’s not as likely to dent or chip as other Power Wheels if your child runs into something. The only drawback is there is no governor, so it can go a bit faster than some parents are comfortable with. The vehicle can reach speeds up to eight miles per hour. So, keep that in mind if you are looking to purchase for a smaller child.
#8: 12V Licensed BMW I8 Kids Ride On Car (Best Low Cost)
Recommended age: 37 to 96 months
Max weight limit: 66 lbs.
If you’re looking at the best electric cars for kids but don’t want to spend a fortune, consider the 12V Licensed BMW I8 Kids Ride On Car. This low-cost but still cool and stylish car has a speed of three miles per hour, making it one of the slower vehicles. It was the first electric car my daughter owned. I’ll be honest, at just under two years old, I wasn’t sure she’d be able to handle it. I was right . . . at first. She was a bit skeptical and slightly scared when the car moved, but she soon learned how to operate it. She fell in love and hasn’t looked back since. And that, folks, is how we got started in our electric car-buying journey. This is an amazing car for younger drivers.
Comes with a Parental Remote Control
The parental remote control lets you, as the parent, control the car. This not only keeps your child safe as they learn to maneuver the steering wheel, but it also gives you peace of mind. As you turn with the remote control, it also turns the steering wheel on the car, so your child can learn left and right. It also allows you to control the speed. There are two speeds for forward and one for reverse, as well as a brake button. Let me just say, this thing was a life-saver for my heart!
Unique Musical Features
This kids’ car comes with some pretty neat musical features. It has an MP3 player interface, a USB port, and a TF card slot for portable devices. Your little one can choose to listen to built-in music or change the radio to a story mode to help them learn musical literacy while driving.
This one-seater kid’s car is recommended for ages 37 to 96 months and has a weight capacity of 66 pounds. Choose your child’s favorite vehicle color choice: black, white, or red. It also has cool features like a working horn, water-resistant tires and seatbelts, and a forward/reverse shifter to give your little one that exciting driving experience.
#9: Fisher-Price Power Wheels Ford Mustang (Best for Toddlers)
Recommended age: 36 months to five years old
Max weight limit: 130 lbs.
There’s a reason Fisher-Price has been around for as long as they have. They make great products that last seemingly forever and have great educational value. The Fisher-Price Power Wheels Ford Mustang is no exception. This electric sports car is great for your young children to learn about the ins and outs of driving.
A Great Learning Vehicle
Geared for kids ages three years old and up, this electric sports car for kids is the best choice for little ones and has great learning potential. Like most of the cars on this list, two forward speeds are moving you up to five miles per hour, and one reverse speed at about two miles per hour. Your child will learn to go forward and backward, change speeds, steer, stop, and go. Physical motion is good for their development of motor skills, balance, and body awareness.
Looks Like a Real Sports Car
The Fisher-Price Power Wheels Ford Mustang looks just like a real Mustang. It comes with sporty chrome wheels, realistic-looking pretend seat belts and a cup holder. It even has sound effects with cool motor sounds and real music on the pretend radio.
The reviews are great for these electric cars for kids. Parents like that the doors don’t open for added security and are sturdy and well-built for a long-lasting car. Most of the owners were purchasing for children between the two to four age range.
#10: Uenjoy Maserati GranCabrio (Best for a Smooth Ride)
Recommended age: two to five years old
Max weight limit: 77 lbs.
This Uenjoy Maserati GranCabrio looks and rides like the real deal. Your kids will feel upscale and classy in another of my top picks of the best electric cars of 2021. Toddlers everywhere will get a kick out of the radio with built-in music and stories to listen to while driving. The preprogrammed horn and engine sounds will have your child asking if they can ride it again and again.
A Smooth Ride for Your Kids
Its spring suspension and EVA wheels will give your kids such a smooth ride that they’ll think they’re in a real Maserati.
Comes with Two 12-Volt Batteries for a Strong Motor
The two 12-volt batteries that are included with this car provide a strong output and the ability for the vehicle to reach speeds of up to three miles per hour. This makes it perfect for little ones. They can’t go too fast, and with the included remote control, you can help decide how fast is too fast.
Coming in at about an hour’s drive time, the Uenjoy Maserati GranCabrio is small and lightweight enough to be used indoors, and durable enough for outdoor use, making it a versatile choice.
There are so many excellent choices for electric cars for kids in 2021 that it was difficult for me to narrow it down to the top ten vehicles. Instead of stopping there, I’ve decided to add three more. We’ll call these my Honorable Mentions. These cars are no better or worse than my top picks. I just couldn’t choose where to put them, but I also didn’t want to leave them out. So, here they are!
Recommended age: 36 months to eight years old
Max weight limit: 66 lbs.
This kidsclub Ride On Fire Truck Toy made our Honorable Mention’s list because it’s the best electric fire truck available. Watch as your little one lives out his or her firefighter dreams.
Your Child Gets to Be a Firefighter
This kid’s electric car comes with a realistic alarm sound, a simulated fire extinguisher, a water pistol, and even a helmet to give your child the ultimate firefighter experience.
Ideal for Indoor or Outdoor Play
Unlike most of the electric cars for kids on this list, this kidsclub Ride On Fire Truck Toy’s front and rear wheels are equipped with a spring suspension system. This allows for a smooth and comfortable ride both indoors and outdoors.
Parents like that these vehicles also come with a remote control so that the fire truck can be operated by either you or your child. Another great quality of this car is that it can run anywhere between 60 and 120 minutes per charge.
Recommended age: three to seven years old
Max weight limit: 130 lbs.
Although I have the Kid Trax Dodge Viper SRT Convertible next to last on this list, it’s still a fan favorite. Your kids are will love traveling in style in this sports car.
Great for Adventurous Kids
This hot rod features the Kid Trax Power Trax rubber traction strip tires. These tires provide for easy and fun all-terrain performance, making them a great toy for any adventure.
One-Step Charging System
Kids Trax cars come with the Kid Trax direct connect one-step charging system. All you need is an outlet to charge the car, virtually guaranteeing the fun never ends. The best part is that this car has a battery charge indicator so you know when it’s time to plug it in.
Consumers who purchased this car for their children like that it’s a decent car with good speeds. It goes fast enough for the kids, but not so fast that we, as parents, are going to freak out. It also makes for a good beginner’s car.
Recommended age: three to eight years old
Max Weight Limit: 66 lbs.
Bring back a blast from the past with this Outdoor Children’s Volkswagen Beetle Car Toy. Your children will by stylin’ and profilin’ in their very own Beetle.
Officially Licensed by Volkswagen
As the heading suggests, this little bug is licensed by Volkswagen. The electric car has the look of the original Beetle complete with the brand’s horn music and working headlights and tail lights design. The car will bring back a type of nostalgia for all of us parents as we get to watch our children play in their very first Volkswagen Beetle.
Only Has Two Speeds
As a great beginner’s car for the younger generation, this car only has two speeds – forward and reverse. If you’re not quite confident with your child’s driving ability, feel free to control the vehicle yourself with its 2.4G remote control.
The Outdoor Children’s Volkswagen Beetle Car Toy has about an hour of drive time after a first complete eight- to a ten-hour battery charge.
Verdict: Your Best Kids Electric Car
If you want the best value for your money, pick the Power Wheels Dune Racer . This one is the best value not only for its 7R Gearbox and Power Wheels power lock brake system, but it has an amazing drive system that will take on virtually any terrain your child wants to tackle.
If you’re looking for the best premium, pick the Kid Trax Yamaha ATV Toddler/Kids Electric Ride On Toy . This is the only 4-wheeler that made the cut with its realistic features, front and rear cargo racks, and foot-powered acceleration.
If you want the best quality kids’ electric car, pick the Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer . Trusted brands Peg Perego and John Deere came up with this American-made tractor look-alike. It features two speeds, plus reverse, high traction wheels, and adjustable seats. The side-stake trailer is just an added bonus for the kiddos.
If you’re looking for color options, pick the Moderno Truck . This not only comes with a plethora of color choices, but it also has leather seats, an unbeatable sound system, and a smart charging battery system for hours of fun.
If you need a two-seater, pick the Best Choice Products 12V 3.7 MPH 2-Seater Licensed Land Rover Ride On Car Toy . A perfect choice for parents with multiple children, this one is packed full of fun features and can either be driven manually or controlled with the parental remote.
If you’re looking for the best Jeep, pick the Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler . Your kids will rule the neighborhood (and make adults green with envy) when they cruise around in their themed Jeep Wrangler.

If you’re looking for the smoothest ride, pick the Uenjoy Maserati GranCabrio . While the two 12-volt batteries help contribute to the hours of fun kids will have, the spring suspension and EVA wheels will provide a smooth ride every time your kids jump in and take off.
Keep in mind that even the best Power Wheels electric cars for kids will need to be charged before their first use. It’s best to plug it in and charge the electric car overnight since it can take anywhere from 12 to 18 hours, depending on your specific make and model (unless you buy the Moderno Kids Kiddie Roadster, which, as we’ve learned, only takes about an hour and a half). Making sure the car has a full battery charge will ensure a longer-lasting driving experience for your kids. A backup battery is always a good purchase since almost all of these vehicles only have a run time of an hour or less.
Also, remember to keep your children safe and watch them at all times. As we know, accidents can – and will – happen when we’re not careful. If your kid’s electric car comes with parental remote controls, by all means, use them. Keep a close eye on your children if they’re driving near sidewalks, roads, or intersections. The backyard is almost always the safest place to ride.
