The Best Kids Electric Cars in 2024 – Ride on Cars for Kids

My 5-year-old has not one, but two electric vehicles. Not because we were bored and decided to spend our hard-earned money on Power Wheels, but because she had so much fun with her electric Jeep that we bought her a truck as well. She loves both of them for their individual qualities. For example, the Jeep has two seats, making it fun for her baby dolls to ride next to her. In the truck, she loads her toys, rocks, sticks, or whatever her little heart desires into the bed.

Based on our experience and feedback from other customers, I can confidently recommend the Power Wheels Dune Racer as the best value for your money. It’s a 2-seater so kids don’t have to take turns. Its Monster Traction system can power over multiple terrains. It is durable and sturdy enough to last for several years. Plus it has one of the strongest gearboxes available.

BEST VALUE: Power Wheels Dune Racer
Features a 7R gearbox with a 15-tooth motor for high power and torque. Monster Traction system drives on hard surfaces, wet grass, and rough terrain at maximum 5 mph forward and 2.5 mph in reverse. Power-Lock Brakes and parent-controlled, high-speed lock out. Metal sidebars for hand support and secret storage compartment under hood.

On the other hand, if you don’t care about power and torque, and you just want lots of features to keep your child busy and happy, check out the Best Choice Products 12V 3.7 MPH Land Rover. From working headlights to an actual horn to an input for your child’s music device, this electric car has so many features that your child will enjoy sitting in the car and playing with them as much as the actual drive.

MOST FEATURES: Best Choice Products 12V 3.7 MPH Land Rover
Officially-licensed Land Rover ride-on features LED headlights, a horn, a startup sound, and AUX input for music devices. Your child can cruise at 1.8mph or drive faster at a maximum speed of 3.7 mph. Includes forward/reverse remote control with speed selection. 4-wheel suspension and treaded tires create a smooth ride. Space under the hood for storage. Rear bottom handle for easy transportation.

For my own daughter I got the Moderno Truck Ride On Toy Car With Parental Remote and MP3 Player. It also has lots of features, although not as many as the Best Choice Land Rover. But I still chose it because it has such a huge selection of colors. We chose the purple, since it’s my daughter’s favorite color.

What Should I Look for When Buying an Electric Car for Kids?

Ride-on electric cars for kids have come a long way since we were kids. Most of these cars now come with a plethora of features, including a working FM radio and an MP3 player, so your children can listen to their favorite tunes, as well as LED lights, real-life sound effects, and working gear shifters. Some even have leather seats and two-point seat belts for the ultimate driving experience. You can also find some that come with remote control, so we as parents can be sure our little drivers are staying safe and out of the roadways.

However, there are several factors you’ll want to consider when purchasing electric ride on cars.

What is the recommended age and weight capacity?

While electric toy cars are typically recommended for ages two to eight, some are designed specifically for children as young as 12 months. So it’s important to pay attention to the vehicle’s weight capacity. For most single-seat models, the weight limit is approximately 40 pounds while two-seaters can handle up to 130 pounds.

What safety features does the car have?

The best electric cars for kids these days come with countless safety features. Many include two-point seat belts, power lock capabilities, a brake system that allows the vehicle to stop as soon as your child lets off the gas pedal, and separate parent remote controls so that you’re in control. You can rest easy knowing that your children are safe when driving around in their electric cars, but be sure to supervise at all times. These cars can be pretty heavy and will hurt if you get hit by one.

What battery does it have?

The speed at which these electric cars travel depends on what battery type you choose for your kids’ car. Almost all of these cars for kids come with a 12-volt battery, but you can upgrade to a 16-volt or 18-volt battery. Some even have a 24-volt option. The 12-volt electric vehicles can go up to four miles per hour while the 24-volt electric cars can reach a speed of up to six miles per hour. Keep in mind, however, that upgrading your battery may void the warranty.

Also, note that these batteries take about 18 hours to charge straight out of the box. After that, it can take about 14 hours to recharge. You’ll want to plan for this before your kids get all excited to jump on and ride around in their new vehicle.

Maintenance is important too. Find out how often the battery needs to be replaced.

How many seats does it have?

You’ll want an answer to this question if you have two or more children. To avoid arguments and disputes (and to save you unnecessary headaches), look for a two-seater. If you only have one kid, the ATVs and quads are a good choice.

What is the brand reputation?

Since electric cars are no small expense, there is value in sticking with a reputable brand. Your car may need to withstand rough play and outdoor conditions, so you want to know in advance that it is durable and will last. Customer support is another consideration. If something does happen to your car, you want to make sure they will take good care of you.

What is the noise level?

Some people don’t mind this at all, but if you will be bothered by a loud car, make sure you check on the noise level before you get it.

How easy is it to use?

Especially for younger kids, it’s worth considering how easy the electric car is to use. That includes features such as steering, braking, and acceleration.

Additional features

Some cars may come with additional features, such as a radio, speakers, or lights. Others may come with extra comfortable seats. Consider what’s important to you and look for a car that can provide it.

How much does it cost, and can you buy it used?

The cost is something to consider whether you’re on a budget or wanting to splurge. These electric cars can cost anywhere from $200 to $450. The best Power Wheels with all the bells and whistles will cost even more. The good news is you can purchase them used from garage sales, online yard sales, or from someplace like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or even Craigslist. The rule of thumb here is to get the car’s background and to take it for a test ride before purchasing.

Here’s How We’ve Determined the Best  Electric Car for Kids

To determine the best electric toy cars for this list, I not only looked at consumer reviews, I considered the options and features for the price and recommended age and weight for each vehicle.

#1: Power Wheels Dune Racer (Best Value)

One of the best Power Wheels for kids, this Dune Racer is the best choice for outdoor fun. The Power Wheels Dune Racer has a drive system that allows it to go on hard surfaces, rough terrain, wet grass, and mud. It can also travel at a speed of up to five miles per hour, which is pretty typical of these types of vehicles. This vehicle offers an open cockpit with metal handlebars and the Power Wheels power lock brake system. This system ensures the vehicle stops as soon as the child lets off the gas, making it one of the better safety features.

It Has a 7R Gearbox

The 7R gearbox is one of the strongest gearboxes available. This rare and hard-to-find box gearbox with a 15-tooth motor brings with it more power and torque than the other vehicles on this list. It’s also mounted in such a way that minimizes the stress on the electric car when starting and stopping.

It’s Long-Lasting

After reading the reviews, you’ll find this Power Wheels vehicle is durable and sturdy enough to last for several years, even with the toughest and roughest of children. This is good news for those with kids who are just learning to drive an electric car. It’s also a two-seater, so your kids don’t have to share their turns. Yay!

Parents love that this kid’s electric car sits low to the ground. This ensures that, as long as they stay seated, the car won’t flip over. Huge points for safety.

The side-stake trailer is just an added bonus for the kiddos.

Keep in mind that even the best Power Wheels electric cars for kids will need to be charged before their first use. It’s best to plug it in and charge the electric car overnight since it can take anywhere from 12 to 18 hours, depending on your specific make and model (unless you buy the Moderno Kids Kiddie Roadster, which, as we’ve learned, only takes about an hour and a half). Making sure the car has a full battery charge will ensure a longer-lasting driving experience for your kids. A backup battery is always a good purchase since almost all of these vehicles only have a run time of an hour or less.

Also, remember to keep your children safe and watch them at all times. As we know, accidents can – and will – happen when we’re not careful. If your kid’s electric car comes with parental remote controls, by all means, use them. Keep a close eye on your children if they’re driving near sidewalks, roads, or intersections. The backyard is almost always the safest place to ride.

9 thoughts on “The Best Kids Electric Cars in 2024 – Ride on Cars for Kids”

  1. For the life of me I can’t figure out why there is one “best for girls.” If it is purely color, boys can like purple too. If there is anything about it that is “softer” for girls, they can play rugged too. If any of these are played with by using genitalia, the only reason why an item would be determined by sex, then they are not children’s toys. Otherwise – they are gender neutral.

    Good grief.

    • Thank you for your woke reply. Thank God someone is interjecting wokeness into children’s toys. Its about time!
Your reply is tiresome, boring, typical, and predictable. Put on some lipstick, shave your armpits, and cook your family some dinner.

      • Naturally, the man in this comment thread is tying to exercise his control over women. Nice try, Jim. Us women can still do whatever we want. Must suck to have no control over the other sex in this modern world.

        I’m dead!

I got annoyed by that “person’s” comment… …until I read your answer! Now I’m very glad this type of being exists, just so someone like you can put them in their right place and I can have some fun watching 😂

    • Agreed! In particular, it says to girls that, among all the options on the list, it’s the ONLY one for them, and that’s what they have to pick. What if she likes something different? There’s nothing about the other options that makes them wrong for girls at all!
